SPAN345-01_SP20:Bilingualism in Span World
This course will first explore the nature of bilingualism, focusing on its neurolinguistic, psycholinguistic, and linguistic aspects. Students will examine the most important concepts and research questions in these areas. In addition, the class will focus on bilingualism in the United States and the Spanish-speaking world, including the examination of bilingual education programs (e.g., immersion programs) and important political matters connected to them.
Prerequisite(s)/Corequisite(s): (Prereq: SPAN 201 or SPAN 202 or SPAN 212 with a C- or better)
Typically Offered: Fall term only
The bilingual class helped me understand the importance of being bilingual. In this class I learned about how the brain works since it has a lot to do with learning two languages. She learned that a baby is no longer recognizing the language and during her growth she knows how to distinguish between languages as much as the mother speaks like any other language. The studies that have been done are impressive and help us understand the importance of both languages as the mother tongue and the language that is learned. I mean the language that we acquire when we are children and the language that we learn when we go to school. the language we learn in school we learn with grammatical rules and sometimes it is difficult for us to maintain the mother tongue since we do not practice it since we decide to use the second language with our friends or brothers or at work and school. I was very surprised when I realized that bilingualism has a lot to do with linguistic since much of what I learned in this class had already been mentioned in my linguistics class. in both classes they taught us about morphemes, phonology, etc.
