course description
HCOM 327: Survey of American Literature examines a selection of literature produced in the United States through different historical periods, literary genres, and cultural movements. Students will develop the ability to compare and contrast social, historical, and cultural experiences represented in literature. Students gain cross-cultural knowledge of American literary history, an introduction to literary theory, and further develop their skills in literary analysis. The course is required for the concentration in English Subject Matter Preparation.
The deliberation and advocacy class helped me to put into practice what I learned in my other classes since in order to communicate that we are arguing something we have to ask ourselves a question to make the reader understand what we are going to argue and There will be a discontent on the part of the audience to be able to implement our point from which we are going to develop in the essay. Taking this class helped me improve my essays since it made me think about why it is important to argue about a problem in society. In this class we also had to make a presentation in which we would talk about the problem that was and why we had decided to do about that problem and finally suggest a solution for this problem. The topic for my presentation that I chose was about health, the problems we have in the United States, the high cost of medical insurance and the high cost of medicines. my colleagues and I compared the United States with the medical insurance of other countries, we concluded that the problem was not worldwide and that other measures were implemented in other places, which made that country better because of the low costs of health insurance for its citizens.
